According to Odaily, Malaysia's Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Director Suhaily Zain reported that since 2020, the national electricity company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), has incurred losses exceeding 440 million ringgit (approximately $101 million) due to electricity theft. So far this year, the company has suffered losses amounting to 103 million ringgit. Illegal Bitcoin mining operations are identified as the primary cause behind most of these cases.
