According to Foresight News, the Ethereum Layer 2 network Base has announced via a tweet that it will activate 'Fault Proofs' on the mainnet on October 30. The activation of Fault Proofs will allow anyone to monitor and challenge invalid withdrawals without the need for trusted third parties. This upgrade aims to enhance the network's security and reliability by enabling permissionless challenges to invalid transactions.

When the upgrade occurs, pending withdrawals will need to be re-verified. Withdrawals initiated before the upgrade will have to wait for a seven-day challenge period before they can be finalized. Additionally, the 'DisputeGameFactory' will replace the 'L2OutputOracle' as the new contract responsible for submitting output root statements. This change is expected to streamline the process and improve the overall efficiency of the network.
