In 2018, a group of pranksters in California decided to have some fun with a Bitcoin ATM located in a mall. Bitcoin ATMs allow people to buy Bitcoin with cash, and while they’re typically pretty straightforward, these pranksters saw an opportunity to confuse shoppers.

They put up fake signs around the machine, advertising a “limited-time Bitcoin giveaway” for anyone who used the machine. The catch? The instructions they provided were hilariously bizarre. One sign claimed that anyone who bought Bitcoin through the machine could “double their money” by chanting “I love crypto” three times in front of the ATM. Another sign suggested that entering a secret “Bitcoin code” (which didn’t exist) would unlock a hidden prize.

As you can imagine, this attracted a crowd of curious, and perhaps a bit too trusting, mall-goers who tried to follow the ridiculous instructions. People were spotted chanting and entering random codes into the machine, expecting something magical to happen. Meanwhile, the pranksters filmed the entire thing from a distance, laughing as more and more people got in on the absurdity.

Though harmless, the prank went viral, and it became a humorous reminder that while Bitcoin can be confusing, you should always do your research—especially before following advice from random signs in a mall! #ScrollOnBinance #Write2Earn! #CMEBTCFuturesRecordHigh #HotTrens #HOTProtocol
