A major network outage at Bank of America left thousands of customers unable to access their accounts or seeing their balances drop to zero.

The problems began around 16:26 UTC on October 2 and peaked an hour later, with around 18,000 reports of issues registered on #Downdetector, mostly related to the bank's mobile and online services.

While Bank of America has not publicly commented on the situation, it told#CNNthat most of the issues had been resolved. By 1:01 a.m. UTC on Oct. 3, the bank assured#Cointelegraphthat the technology issues had been resolved. However, many customers reported ongoing difficulties.

Customer reactions ranged from anger to humour, with some noting that while their account balances had disappeared, their debts remained intact. There were reports of branches not processing transactions and some ATMs not displaying balances, although cash withdrawals were still possible.

In light of the outages, some cryptocurrency enthusiasts have pointed to the incident as justification for keeping funds on their own, highlighting #Bitcoin's robust history of uptime since 2013.
