Hamster Combat, the popular click-to-earn game on Telegram, has announced plans to launch a layer 2 network on The Open Network (TOON).

This initiative follows a community vote supporting the creation of a dedicated blockchain to expand the utility of the Hamster Combat Token (HMSTR).

Hamster Combat Launches Its Own Blockchain Network

The upcoming blockchain, said to be called the Hamster Network, will form the basis of the broader Hamsterverse ecosystem. Developers have confirmed that work on the network is already underway.

Over the next few weeks, the team plans to present a detailed roadmap and implementation strategy to the DAO, with a focus on strengthening Hamster Combat’s position in the decentralized gaming space.

“Voting on the second proposal is over! The DAO community has spoken: there will be a Hamster L2 blockchain built on Toon! We will serve our community, the largest Web3 community in the world, with the technological foundation they asked for,” the project posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The Hamster Combat community has previously supported high-profile initiatives, including events with a $1 billion prize pool for token holders. These decisions reflect the growing enthusiasm for the platform’s expansion and broader ambitions in blockchain-based gaming.

Click to win games are on the decline.

After the initial buzz in Q2 and Q3 of this year, click-to-earn games on Telegram have seen a decline in interest over the past few months. According to the latest reports, interest in such games has dropped by nearly 80% between June and December 2024.

This is also evident in TON’s on-chain activity. Data shows that the number of monthly active wallets has dropped by nearly 50% since October.

Hamster Combat was widely considered a major success in 2024. Its NFT integration plans also led to a 400% increase in NFT activity on Telegram in October.

However, after the airdrop failed, the platform saw a significant drop in users and token value. In three months, its users dropped from 300 million to 41 million, and the HMSTR token lost nearly 60% of its value.

In November, the team announced the launch of Season 2 of the game, which promises to revamp the gameplay. Players will have the opportunity to manage virtual game studios, create custom spaces, recruit team members, and conduct trials—representing a major shift in the game’s dynamics.

However, interest in click-to-win games continues to decline due to their lack of utility and repetitive gameplay. It will be interesting to see if users will discover renewed interest in Hamster Combat after the launch of its new L2 network.
