Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows will take a shift to a modern story since the company is facing difficulties in matching the same interest of Desmond’s storyline.

According to Eurogamer, the announcement was shared at a BAFTA event by Marc Alexis Cote. He is Ubisoft’s vice president and executive producer of Assassins Creed.

Cote said that Ubisoft has “struggled to find its footing” in the modern-day storytelling for Assassin’s Creed in the past few years. [SPOILER ALERT] This happened since the death of Desmond at the end of Assassin’s Creed 3.

He said that “Desmond’s journey was at the heart of the modern-day conflict driving the search for powerful Isu artifacts, Pieces of Eden, that could change the course of history” therefore his death has caused the creative crossroads for the franchise.
