Five Major Changes the U.S. May Face After Trump's Victory
The New York Times predicts that after Trump regains power, the political landscape in the U.S. may undergo five major changes.
1. Strengthening Presidential Power: After Trump returns to the White House, he is likely to increase presidential power within federal government agencies that operate independently of the White House and shift the balance of power by appointing more of his own people.
2. Targeting Political Opponents: Trump is likely to 'use presidential power to retaliate against his perceived political enemies,' with the current President Biden and his family being the primary targets. Previously, Trump stated that if elected again, he would appoint a special prosecutor to 'investigate' Biden and his family.
3. Strict Immigration Control: For Trump, combating illegal immigration has always been one of his core policies. Trump's chief immigration adviser, Stephen Miller, stated that a second Trump administration would massively deport illegal immigrants, expecting to expel more than 1 million people from the U.S. each year.
4. Large-scale Taxation: Trump plans to impose new tariffs on most imported goods, with the new import tax rates generally reaching 10%. The New York Times points out that this could not only raise domestic prices in the U.S. but also potentially trigger a global trade war, harming the interests of U.S. exporters.
5. Alienating European Allies: After taking office, Trump is likely to alienate traditional European allies, weaken NATO, and even directly lead the U.S. to withdraw from NATO.
