Bitcoin Series (12) - Mentougou Hacked
On June 19, 2011, hackers gained administrator access to the Bitcoin exchange Mt.Gox by stealing the database, creating false sell orders, and driving the Bitcoin price down to $0.01. Mt.Gox and other major exchanges announced a 7-day trading suspension. Subsequently, the database was leaked again, and hackers used the database information to breach the MyBitcoin online wallet, stealing 4,019 bitcoins from over 600 wallet addresses.
