Following the release of the HBO documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery, Canadian programmer Peter Todd was forced into hiding.

In the film, he was named as a possible creator of Bitcoin, although the developer himself denies this. Todd claims that director Cullen Hoback used this theory to attract attention to the film.

The programmer notes that the false claims put him at risk, given that Nakamoto's bitcoins are valued in the billions of dollars. After the premiere, he received a wave of letters asking for money, and one person begged for help with a loan, sending 25 messages in two days.

Hoback believes that Todd's fears are overblown: other alleged Satoshis, such as Adam Back and Nick Szabo, have not received the same attention. However, the late cryptographer's widow, Lena Sassaman, confirmed Todd's fears, saying that she herself experienced a security threat when her husband was named as a possible creator of Bitcoin.

In early 2025, the Danish Tax Law Council will introduce a bill that would tax unrealized profits from cryptocurrencies on a mark-to-market basis.

This means that owners of digital assets will be required to pay the state annually if there is a positive revaluation, regardless of whether the digital assets are sold. The project will also require crypto companies to disclose information about their clients' transactions.

According to Steno Research analyst Mads Eberhardt, the proposed tax rate will be 42%. It will affect not only new acquisitions, but also assets accumulated since the early years of Bitcoin. The expert called these measures a "war on cryptocurrencies."

Nigerian authorities have dropped charges against Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan, citing diplomatic interference, minimal involvement in the case, and his deteriorating health.

The court ordered Gambaryan's release from prison, but an acquittal was not issued.

Now the only defendant in the case is the Binance exchange itself, which is accused of money laundering and currency fraud amounting to $34.4 million. The next court hearings in the case are scheduled for November.
