Etherscan developers have released beta version v2 with a unified API for retrieving data from over 50 EVM blockchains.

Supported networks include Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, including related testnets such as Sepolia, Goerli and others.

The initiative aims to simplify the creation of multi-chain dapps by providing a single point of control over blockchain data. The transition will reduce developer overhead and improve application efficiency.

The API has a unique code that serves to identify and authenticate the user. In fact, the tool functions as a digital ID badge that provides access to the API services or data.

In Etherscan, API keys protect both the service and the user, preventing unauthorized actions and allowing interactions only by approved users.

Compared to v1, v2 optimizes access to multi-chain data in the form of the chainID parameter in the API. The latter allows developers to specify the target blockchain within a single interface, eliminating the need for multiple API keys and different configurations for each network.

A single API key reduces setup time, simplifies code, and maintains backward compatibility with v1. This eliminates issues with breaking existing applications and related services.

Let us recall that in June, the developers presented a beta version of the Code Reader tool based on artificial intelligence for analyzing the source code of smart contracts.
