Hot news from Pi Network helps to increase EXTREMELY STRONG LIQUIDITY in Pi's ecosystem

News content:

As we move closer to Open Network, we are excited to announce the second PiFest, an exciting new event organized by our community designed to promote Pi’s utility and support local merchants. Following the success of PiFest last December, this event will once again highlight the practical use of Pi in everyday transactions, with a powerful new dimension: the event will be supported by one of the winning Pi applications.

Vendor Registration and Preparation will begin on Thursday, October 24, 2024, and the Pioneer Shopping period will run from Tuesday, October 29 to Tuesday, November 5, 2024. All members of the Pi Network community can participate by searching for and visiting local Pi-Powered businesses, making purchases, and sharing their experiences on the Fireside Forum and social media.

About PiFest and Pi Map

PiFest is a community-led event that supports and facilitates the integration of Pi into local commerce, connecting merchants with Pioneer shoppers and celebrating their local experiences on Fireside Forum and social media.

PiFest was created in part due to the strong interest Pioneers have shown in using Pi in local businesses. This interest was demonstrated by the wide participation in the first PiFest in December 2023. However, a challenge often cited by Pioneers is the lack of ability to discover businesses that accept Pi.

To address this challenge, we kicked off 2024 with a special Pi Commerce Hackathon, where we invited Pioneer developers to build applications to address this issue, with initial design prototypes provided by the Pi Core Team. Map of Pi was announced as one of two winners of the hackathon in March 2024; the app was built by a group of Pioneers from around the world and uses the Pi Open Source (PiOS) license to foster further contributions and community development. Since the hackathon, the Map of Pi team has continued to build, add features, and improve with ongoing guidance and support from the Core Team. In particular, the flow and functionality of Map of Pi has been further refined to support the PiFest event. We are excited to introduce Map of Pi during PiFest to improve discoverability for merchants and Pioneers globally.

However, keep in mind that this is the first time a major global Pi community event has been held on a community-built app with its own post-launch support. Early adopters should expect potential work-in-progress features and user experience issues.

How was PiFest this year?

Explore and learn

The Pi Map allows Pioneer merchants (those who accept Pi or integrate Pi into their business) to list their businesses, products and services and become easily known to Pioneers in their local community.

Pioneers can use Pi Maps to find nearby Pi-powered businesses via a map or search function and can add reviews about their shopping experience. Note that actual shopping and transactions take place in-store, not in the Pi Maps app. The app is focused on helping Pioneers discover local Pi-powered businesses.

Visit and trade

Pioneers will then go to the local stores they find and transact with merchants to purchase goods and services securely using the Pi QR code feature in the Pi Wallet which allows their transactions to take place on the Pi Mainnet blockchain.

These elements are designed together to support the entire Pi-powered commerce cycle and create a blueprint for Pi integration at the intersection of Web3 and commerce.

PiFest aims to facilitate the use and integration of Pi in local commerce, leveraging innovative solutions developed by Pioneer developers together during the Pi Commerce Hackathon. Building utility is the primary goal of the Enclosed Mainnet phase and beyond, and PiFest plays a central role in bringing Pioneers and merchants together to contribute to this effort while having fun.

Post and share!

PiFest is an opportunity to showcase and celebrate Pi's local commercial potential to the Pioneer community and the rest of the world.

Therefore, Merchants and Pioneer Buyers are encouraged to share photos and stories of their PiFest experiences on the Fireside Forum#PiFestchannel and on social media! Your Fireside Forum post may even be featured on Pi’s social media accounts to millions of followers if you participate in various Merchant and Pioneer challenges when creating your post.
