The Nigerian government has dropped all charges against Binance cryptocurrency exchange top manager Tigran Gambaryan, local media reported.

The decision was announced by the prosecution counsel representing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during a closed hearing at the Federal High Court in Abuja on October 23.

According to him, Gambaryan was just an employee of Binance, for whose activities he is being prosecuted.

The top executive's defense attorney, Mark Mordy, agreed with prosecutors, saying his client was not involved in the company's larger financial decisions.

Thus, the case against Gambaryan has been completed, but the details of the decision are still unknown.

Nigerian authorities accuse Binance of money laundering and currency speculation totaling up to $34.4 million. In a separate case, the company is accused of tax evasion.

Recall that Gambaryan and Binance's director for West and East Africa, Nadeem Anjarwalla, were detained in Nigeria in February after meeting with the country's authorities. The latter managed to escape to Kenya, but the authorities tracked him down there and agreed on extradition.

Gambaryan has been held at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja since he was charged in April. The conditions have caused his physical health to deteriorate rapidly. The executive suffers from a herniated disc, as well as bouts of pneumonia, malaria and tonsillitis.

The court twice denied Gambaryan bail.

His wife Yuki has repeatedly called on the US authorities to intervene in what is happening.
