What is BITCOIN HALVING?

Bitcoin halving is a predetermined event in the Bitcoin network’s protocol that reduces the reward miners receive for validating transactions and adding new blocks to the blockchain. The term “halving” is derived from the fact that the rewards are halved. Specifically, the number of new Bitcoins created with each block is cut in half.

When Does Bitcoin Halving Occur?

Bitcoin halving events have occurred roughly every four years, or after every 210,000 blocks have been mined. Given that a new block is mined approximately every 10 minutes, this translates to roughly every four years. The previous Bitcoin halving events took place in 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024.
