$BTC I think it's no news to anyone that tomorrow there's a super-duper-mega-hyped HBO documentary about Bitcoin coming out, in which they're going to reveal the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. Many people think that this documentary will have a significant impact on the crypto market, causing a strong pump in Bitcoin. Honestly, I have no idea how the market will react to this film tomorrow, or if it will react at all. I have no experience in observing how films affect crypto, so tomorrow should be interesting.
I want to tell you about something else. Now all bets are on the fact that the exposed identity of Satoshi is Len Sassaman, a famous American cryptographer whose portrait is immortalized in the blockchain. If Len really created Bitcoin, then the story there is rather sad. On April 23, 2011, Satoshi left his last message on the Bitcointalk forum, in which he said that he was leaving the development of Bitcoin to his colleagues in the industry, and he himself "moved on to other things." Two months later, Len committed suicide, unable to withstand the attacks of a neurological disease from which he suffered. It is a pity that he was never able to see what his brainchild became for the world.
But I suggest you think about the following. The whole point here is that Satoshi Nakamoto's wallets are estimated to contain about a million bitcoins, mined by him in the first year of the cryptocurrency's existence. What do you think will happen to the bitcoin rate if a huge number of people are convinced that a million BTC (almost 5% of the maximum possible emission) will never go to the market? It is interesting that the second contender for the role of Satoshi, one of the early developers of the blockchain - Hal Finney, fell into sclerosis by the end of 2011 and died three years later. So, the difference there is not particularly noticeable.
The real question here, of course, is how convincing a film that merely speculates about the identity of Bitcoin's creator can be to the public. We'll find out the answer tomorrow. In any case, I'll be very interested to see how the market behaves over the next few days.
