Hamster Kombat locked out 2.3 million users for cheating before airdropping the HMSTR token, which is equivalent to the population of a city like Rome.

This one measure was caused by fraudulent methods such as linking multiple accounts to a single Binance wallet and creating fake referrals. As a result, the game confiscated 6.8 billion HMSTR tokens, with the aim of burning half of them and redistributing the rest to compatible players.

This campaign affected the eligibility criteria for the airdrop event, with only 131 million out of 300 million players eligible - 43% of the total user base.

Of the total 100 billion HMSTR tokens, 75 billion have been allocated to the community and 60 billion will be available after the end of Season 1. Eligible players will receive 88.75% of their tokens immediately, with the remainder vesting over 10 months.

The situation has sparked controversy, especially after a last-minute anti-cheating rule was introduced that led to the exclusion of several players who thought they were eligible.

There has been criticism from community members and crypto influencers who claim unfair airdrop distribution practices and token acquisition changes without proper notice. Previous issues with the HMSTR airdrop event included a delay from July due to operational challenges.
