Spot trading is similar to the stock market: buy low and sell high, and you cannot short sell. Simple, right?
Contract trading is a bit more complicated; it is a type of financial derivative trading. It is not the actual buying and selling of goods but rather a kind of agreement between you and the platform, similar to an option. For instance, if there is a coin priced at 1 yuan and you believe it will definitely rise to 2 yuan, but you don't have much money on hand, with a total of 1000 yuan. At this point, you can borrow through the platform, using 1000 yuan as margin plus 100 times leverage (the platform will lend you 100,000 yuan) to engage in contract trading. When you open a position at a coin price of 1 yuan, your position's value becomes 100,000 yuan. If the coin price indeed rises to 2 yuan, your position will be worth 200,000 yuan. After you close the position and pay back the 100,000 yuan borrowed from the platform, you will have a profit of 100,000 yuan. However, the risk is also very high! If the coin price only drops by 1%, becoming 0.99 yuan, you will be liquidated and lose everything. This is the 'power' of leverage. Short selling is based on the same principle.
