Which coins and token will survive the cryptocurrency purge?

The ones that I believe that definitely will survive it are

  1. Bitcoin, because it is still too big to fail

  2. Bitcoin Cash, because it is still too big to fail

  3. Ethereum, because it is still too big to fail and has some really good things coming with Casper, Raiden, Plasma, Sharding

  4. Elastos, because it is probably the best out of all 2,000 cryptocurrencies

  5. Cardano, because it is a really good platform, though it is somewhat centralized with stake pooling

  6. IOTA, because it is the best platform next to Elastos of all 2,000 cryptocurrencies

  7. BNB, because it belongs to Binance, the biggest crypto exchange

  8. VeChain, because they probably have the best marketing and PR team

  9. ZRX, because it’s useful

  10. Aeternity, because they have an interesting implementation of Bitcoin NG, which might put them at the top next to Elastos and IOTA soon

  11. BAT, because they are the token with the most traction with 2.5 million users after 3 months

  12. Siacoin, because they have good tech, albeit they have many competitors with Maidsafe, Storj, Gbyte, IOTA, Sky

  13. Maker, because a stable coin is useful

  14. Nano, because it is almost as good as IOTA

  15. Golem, because they have good tech, albeit they have good competition with Aelf, IOTA

The ones that won’t make it in my opinion are

  1. XRP, because they are permissioned and non-trustless and thus centralized

  2. EOS, because they are permissioned and non-trustless and thus centralized

  3. Stellar, because they are permissioned and non-trustless and thus centralized

  4. Litecoin, because they don’t innovate technologically

  5. Dash, because they use a centralized approach to gain scalability

  6. NEO, because they are permissioned and non-trustless and thus centralized

  7. Monero, because a privacy coin is useful, but privacy is a feature that is easy to replicate

  8. ZCash, because a privacy coin is useful, but privacy is a feature that is easy to replicate

  9. ETC, because they are too similar to Ethereum while having a 10x smaller community

  10. TRON, because they are simply very sketchy

  11. Tezos, because they are permissioned and non-trustless and thus centralized

  12. QTUM, because while smart contracts on Bitcoin is useful, they don’t seem to be able to really take advantage of their potential

  13. Omisego, because while it is useful, there is not enough uniqueness about them to differentiate against its numerous competitors

  14. Lisk, because it’s permissioned and non-trustless

  15. Decred, because they have been around for ages, but still have very little adoption

  16. Bytecoin, because they have been around for ages, but still have very little adoption

  17. Dogecoin, because they don’t innovate technologically

  18. Digibyte, because they have been around for ages, but still have very little adoption

  19. Bitshares, because it’s an old project from Dan Larimer which doesn’t get much love anymore

  20. Steem, because it’s an old project from Dan Larimer which doesn’t get much love anymore

  21. Ontology, because it’s permissioned and non-trustless

  22. ICON, because it’s extremely centralized

  23. WINCOIN, because it’s a scam

  24. Bitcoin Gold, because it’s a scam

  25. Bitcoin Diamond, because it’s a scam

  26. Bytom, because while it is not a bad project, it isn’t a great project either

For more information, look at my top 100 summary Top 100 coins

From the #50–#100, I only think those will survive the purge

  1. KuCoin Shares, because fee tokens are useful

  2. Huobi Token, because fee tokens are useful

  3. Maidsafecoin, because it has probably even better tech than siacoin

  4. FunFair, because they do quite good work with Casinos

  5. PowerLedger, because energy is probably even the best use case for the blockchain

The rest I’m not so excited about, so they are likely to get also purged.

Conclusion

Looking at the top 100, exactly 80 coins have rather weak fundamentals and have a high likelihood to be purged. That doesn’t mean that all of them will definitely disappear over the next few years. They could announce amazing technology or realize that they should stop being permissioned and non-trustless, but that is also probably unlikely.
